WaterWise Donation Highlights Efficient Irrigation

The Dallas Irrigation Association designed and donated a state-of-the-art irrigation system to the Dallas Arboretum to demonstrate how healthy landscapes and water conservation can go hand in hand.

The irrigation system is part of a joint effort with the Texas Nursery & Landscape Association to create a WaterWise bed display that includes native plants and other water-saving techniques. The water-efficient irrigation system features a “smart” irrigation controller, which uses weather data from the Internet and computerized information about plant needs to set the irrigation schedule.

“The system illustrates how a good irrigation design that utilizes the right technology coupled with careful plant selection can lead to a beautiful, healthy landscape while conserving water and saving money,” said DIA president James Dowd.

The irrigation system also includes low-flow matched-precipitation rate nozzles and pressure-regulating spray heads with check valves. Products were donated by Hunter Industries, Rain Bird Corporation, WaterLogic, Ewing Irrigation, and AMC Industries.

The Dallas Irrigation Association is an affiliate of the Irrigation Association. The mission of the Irrigation Association is to promote efficient irrigation.
